Why am I Materialistic??

Image
" Rahiman itna dijiye jame kutumb samaye,    Mei bhi bhuka na rahu, sadhu na bhuka jaye" A famous couplet which many of us know by heart. This couplet talks of contentment, sufficing ones needs and talking about service to the society. No greed, no materialism and no lust. Oh it sounds outdated. We human beings as a race have come a long way. It surprises me that even though the couplet is outdated the basic needs remain the same. Although we have come a long way there are still people dying of hunger, homelessness and above all lack of means to fulfill their needs. On the other hand ever since this was written we have seen a newfound surge in materialism. The human greed has increased manifold and it's nowhere to stop. Money rules the roost!! Money has become new God.We measure everything in money even happiness. Human race is mad about possessions and materialistic hunger is at its peak. Even the door to achieve enlightenment is made of glitz and gold.  Wh...

Solitude and Tranquility

Image
"A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free."said a famous writer. Solitude or the state of being alone is a luxury in this fast-paced life.In today's hustle and bustle of life we are always bounded by our duties and responsibilities.        Right from the dawn till dusk we lead a monotonous robotic life as if somebody has put the switch on and off we go. We are busy trying to connect with everyone, making friends and leading an active social life. The more we are connected with others the more empowered we feel. The entire life goes in pleasing others and becoming a slave of the society. This social butterfly syndrome is contagious and engulfs the whole society. In order to connect to others we are disconnected to our core and to our own self.  That is why many a great souls have stressed upon the importance of solitude as it empowers m...

Truth or Fallacy

The Face of Truth is covered  with a brilliant golden orb. Remove it, O Sun, so that I who am devoted to the Truth may behold the Truth.  Upanishads .   Many a times our life is torn between the path of Truth and Fallacy.  Both the path seems appropriate and legible. This way or that it's like standing on the crossroads not knowing which way to go. Truth is the ability to see things in their real realm. To accept things as it is.To acknowledge t hings in their real perspective. Truth or righteousness we all know is a virtue. Today, there is a race among people to earn more money, power and position.  In order to pursue these goals, we do not...

Love vs Lust

Image
"When love beckons to you follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you." Khalil Gibran. L     Love the sweetest and most beautiful expression given by nature to mankind. The very essence of being is love. It's quintessentially the fundamental and basic expression of any relationship.Love is the longing of the heart and nurturing of the soul.Like the dry parched earth quenches her thirst from rain clad clouds, the soul also nourishes itself with the nectar called love.Love nourishes soul in many forms-Mother-child,Guru-disciple,Man-woman and transcendental love.Among the various forms of love,Man-Woman relationship is the most talked about.                ...

Freedom

Image
" I prefer the gorgeous freedom,    And I fly to lands of grace,   Where in wide and clear meadows  All is good, as dreams, and blest. " said a famous poet. Who doesn't prefer freedom, liberty or emancipation-The act of speech or conduct according to one's will.We are all born free and freedom is our innate quality.Man has faught many a wars for the sake of freedom. We daily hear of incidences where people are fighting for freedom of speech and expression... Freedom of speech, freedom of thoughts, freedom of expression, freedom of worship...all sorts of freedom. But are we really free...Are we actually born free.let it look at it this way .The moment we attach an identity with ourselves we generously lose our so called freedom. We start gathering mass to that identity and gradually become slave to that identity. We live in that identity. We live for that identity. Freedom is something not to be acquired.Freedom is something not to striv...

Promise

Image
" Woods are lovely dark and deep But I have promises to keep"!!!            I remember when I was a little girl I would promise every now and then.            My sense of morality was so strong that I would do anything to keep my promise.            Today when I promise I am not sure how long will it last. Promise is a commitment to do or not to do something; A vow , a declaration and above all an oath. One of the frequently and poorly used word.            If we go back in time we'll see the human history revolves around Promises .            In olden days people would go on fighting wars and battles to keep their promises.            Sometimes they would lay their lives to keep their promises. Today when someone says "A promise is a promise"no one believes it. It's something most commonly ren...

Faith vs Fanaticism

Image
It was a serene gentle morning in the holy town of Vrindavan.I was extremely awestruck with the uplifting and cheerful atmosphere of the town.Every soul seems to be immersed in the holy chant of Radhe Radhe!!!I couldn't stop myself experiencing the unconditional love a Gopi feels for the Lord.Every inch of the town has a tale of Krishna's pastime. And I felt lucky enough to experience the aura of this place.                              I remember as a kid I would enthusiastically listened to Krishna's pastime tales from my father.I grew up with the thought that my miseries and pain if any would be eased up by chanting krishna's name. This childhood thought was strong enough to give me a Faith that his name is enough to keep us floating in this Ocean of Samsara.                                          Yes ...
