Why am I Materialistic??

" Rahiman itna dijiye jame kutumb samaye,
Mei bhi bhuka na rahu, sadhu na bhuka jaye"

A famous couplet which many of us know by heart.
This couplet talks of contentment, sufficing ones needs and talking about service to the society.

No greed, no materialism and no lust.
Oh it sounds outdated. We human beings as a race have come a long way.
It surprises me that even though the couplet is outdated the basic needs remain the same.

Although we have come a long way there are still people dying of hunger, homelessness and above all lack of means to fulfill their needs.

On the other hand ever since this was written we have seen a newfound surge in materialism. The human greed has increased manifold and it's nowhere to stop. Money rules the roost!! Money has become new God.We measure everything in money even happiness.
Human race is mad about possessions and materialistic hunger is at its peak.
Even the door to achieve enlightenment is made of glitz and gold.

What wonders me is the fact that the richest of the rich goes through the same cycle of life and death and none of them can defy death. At this point I recall another famous saint of all time Sant Kabir

"Kabir so dhan sanchiye jo age ko hoye,
Sees chadhye potli le jaat na dekha koye "

Yes money was introduced to bring more order and peace of mind.Too much greed has led to all sorts of crime, unhappiness and stress. The whole idea to accumulate wealth and savour money has made us more mean and depressed.
So a controlled mind which can see the ultimate truth can only be happy.
Sadguru Kabir has insisted that till we control our five sense organs we cannot realise the TRUTH!!
Eventually it's our good Karma that would lead us toTRUTH and ENLIGHTENMENT.

Kabir Soyee Soorma, Man Soon Maande Jhoojh
Panch Pyada Paari Le, Door Kare Sab Dooj.

  2. That thank you Gyanesh...well Greed is all so imbibed in us..But we can definitely make a change by taking small steps like practicing self control through meditation and yoga.It will give a direction to our thoughts and help us in controlling our senses.Easier said than done..
    Thanks
