Solitude and Tranquility
"A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free."said a famous writer. Solitude or the state of being alone is a luxury in this fast-paced life.In today's hustle and bustle of life we are always bounded by our duties and responsibilities.
Right from the dawn till dusk we lead a monotonous robotic life as if somebody has put the switch on and off we go. We are busy trying to connect with everyone, making friends and leading an active social life. The more we are connected with others the more empowered we feel. The entire life goes in pleasing others and becoming a slave of the society. This social butterfly syndrome is contagious and engulfs the whole society. In order to connect to others we are disconnected to our core and to our own self. That is why many a great souls have stressed upon the importance of solitude as it empowers mind and brings originality to our thoughts. It brings out creativity and liberates our mind. This liberation of mind brings about freedom and eventually Tranquility.
"We are not going to change the whole world, but we can change ourselves and feel free as birds. We can be serene even in the midst of calamities and, by our serenity, make others more tranquil. Serenity is contagious. If we smile at someone, he or she will smile back. And a smile costs nothing. We should plague everyone with joy. If we are to die in a minute, why not die happily, laughing?"says Swami Sachittananda. Tranquility brings happiness,it brings liberation.
Solitude and tranquility goes hand in hand. Both are essential for nourishing the soul, enriching it with much needed love and happiness. It brings us closer to ourself and addresses the age old question 'Who am I'.
In Yogic practice this solitude and tranquility is attained by meditation.
Meditation is to train the mind to attain to a level of higher consciousness. But it should be done in its most original form with minimal distractions. Today humankind has realised the importance of meditation and its benefits.
My solitude gives me immense happiness and some disconnect moments from society is what I look forward to have a special connect with myself.
