When innocence is pulverised by technology!
"Piping down the valleys wild,
Piping songs of pleasant glee,
On a cloud I saw a child,
And he laughing said to me"
William Blake wrote this in his poem SONGS OF
INNOCENCE
Childhood is supposed to be the gleeful and
innocent phase
of life which is free from any
bondage.But this poem was
written couple of
centuries back. Those times when
children had a
carefree childhood. When children
were not
bombarded with processed knowledge.
When there
was no access to information on
internet.
When rational thinking and inquisitiveness
were
satiated by self exploration and discovery.
Children used to be more in commune with the
natural environment.
In today's time children have lost touch with
themselves.They are alwaysdependent on external
sources of information to compensate their need
to enquiry.
This massive web of information available
over
internet has scrapped today's children away from
their
childhood.Children as young as two years
old
are glued to their parents smartphones.
Gone are the days when little children
enjoyed playing
in garden and parks;
swings and see-saw; touching
the
morning dew with their tender skin
or playing
hide and seek with their
friends. I remember when
we were kids
we had the best of childhood not in
terms
of grabbing more gadgets but grabbing more
memories. Our parents gave us all the
liberty to play
in the garden
unsupervised and we learned from
our experiences.
Although there were no mobile
phones or
tracking system to monitor us we were
SAFE.
Yes we enjoyed the innocence of childhood
attached to our feet. Today the technology
has eroded
kids out of their innocence and
free-play. This wide
web of data available
at their finger tips have made
them technology
parasites and unexplorative. As a
parent there
is a marathon task of keeping a track
of kids
online activities and making them indulge
in
free play. Lack of physical activities brings
with
itself mental, physical and emotional
abberations
in children. They lack creativity
and novility.
Technology should always be used minimal by children
under supervision or else it can create havoc.
This is
what we are witnessing today. The mind of a child
is like a blank page.
Let them write their own story out of their conciousness.
